Robotics (Mechatronics)

The Mechatronics (Robotics) Program will provide interested students with the opportunity to study a multidisciplinary combination of courses that blends knowledge in electronics, mechanics and computer programming to design intelligent mechatronics (electromechanical) systems and devices.

WHAT DOES SOMEONE WORKING IN THE MECHATRONICS INDUSTRY DO?

  • design, install and repair mechatronic hardware and equipment
  • inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
  • understand electrical theory and schematics
  • determine requirements for new systems and modifications

WHAT DO I NEED TO START?

  • entering聽grade 11 or 12
  • enrolled in Math 11 or 12
  • knowledge of Physics is an asset
  • strong interest in designing and building robots
  • aptitude for working with computer hardware, software and electronics
  • good employability skills

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • up to 16 graduation credits
  • a portfolio of student-designed and built projects
  • students participate in Regional VEX competitions
  • community-based work experience placements
  • a foundation in hands-on, technical and theoretical knowledge to support transition to post-secondary studies and future employment in automotive, manufacturing, biomedical, aerospace, or consumer products

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE PROGRAM OFFERED?

  • Ecole Alpha Secondary
  • semester 1 afternoons (period 3, 4, Y)
  • attend regular school during mornings and semester 2 afternoons

She was also one of the first students to enrol in the District鈥檚 new Mechatronics and Automation Engineering Program. She knew instinctively that the practical enrichment it offered would enlighten her in ways that no regular classroom could. And it did. We are looking forward to seeing where her career path takes her, and she is presently exploring these options taking Health Sciences at UBC.
